For many years, Avon has built customer trust through transparency––sharing our product innovations, clinical results and now, the sourcing of our natural ingredients. As a member of the LG H&H family headquartered in South Korea, we benefit from cutting-edge technological innovations and access to the highest-quality ingredients. Recently, a few of our team members visited LG H&H’s HQ. This trip included a visit to the LG H&H Oriental Herbal Research facility to see how they source ingredients for products.
At the research facility, Avon team members met with Junhyung Park, a Senior Researcher at the botanical garden at the LG H&H Oriental Herbal Research facility, which grows key ingredients used in some of Avon’s beloved skin care and hair care products.
The botanical garden plays a vital role in collecting and preserving plant resources to discover their useful substances, as explained by Park. Currently, the LG H&H Oriental Herbal Research facility manages over 250 species of plants. “The most important thing about extracting ingredients from this garden is that the plants are used for skin care, so safety is very important. We don’t use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides and try to grow the plants as naturally as possible,” Park shared.
As a Senior Researcher, Park’s days in the garden begin early. “I start my day at 7 AM by checking the conditions of the plants in the greenhouse. I look for any signs of pests or diseases and ensure they have enough water. I then check the outdoor plants in the same manner,” he shared. Park added that the most satisfying part about working in the botanical garden is “seeing the plants grow healthy and mature.”
Having access to this incredible resource allows Avon to continue innovating carefully researched and effective skin care and hair care formulas with naturally derived ingredients. Now that you’ve taken a peek inside LG H&H’s botanical research center, allow us to introduce you to a few ways to incorporate revitalizing and nourishing botanicals into your everyday routine.
