140 Years of Avon: The Stories That Shape Our Legacy

Share

Mar 9, 2026

As Avon celebrates 140 years of beauty, community and opportunity, we pause to reflect on the stories that make our legacy truly meaningful–yours. In honour of this milestone and Women’s History Month, we invited members of our community to share the moments, memories and women who have shaped their Avon journey. From unforgettable first experiences to the women who inspire them, these stories remind us that Avon has always been about more than products—it’s about connection, purpose and possibility—at the heart of every story.

Isabell, 10-Star Ambassador

How did you learn about Avon?

I was introduced to Avon during my middle school days. Fast forward to 2012, when I was given an opportunity to do a fundraiser through an Ambassador. Within one week of closing my fundraiser, I had coworkers asking me to share a new Avon brochure. That turned on a lightbulb for me to enroll and serve my community near and far. Each new connection reminds me why I started, and it's why I continue today.

Tell us about an unforgettable Avon memory.

When I first enrolled in Avon, my goal was to earn enough money to take my family to Hawaii on a vacation. Which I was able to do. Later, I found out that as an Ambassador you could earn all-expense paid trips. I missed the first I attempted to earn, and I set out to earn it the following year: I earned a ticket to Los Cabos San Lucas. I cried because I was able to do it. So, I set out to continue. I earned the next two trips to Jamaica and Dominican Republic. I took my husband as my guest and bought in my two children for the Dominican Republic trip. They got to experience what I had in Cabos and they loved it. It was our best family trip.

Who is the most inspiring woman in your life and why?

If I'm being honest, there is not one single woman that is the most inspiring in my life, because they all are. These women have taught me about sacrifice, vision, mission, goals, empathy, compassion, resilience, kindness, and love. Each one has been through their own journey which inspires me to live my best life possible. I owe who I am to my grandma, my mom, my sisters, my daughter, my son, my husband, and dear friends.

How did you learn about Avon?

When I was a teenager, my friend Debbie, a neighbor, had an Avon Ambassador named Margaret who visited her mom every other Thursday afternoon. I would go down there to see her whenever I could. I loved all the lip balms. I bought from her for a few years. When I started working at SS Kresge there was a gal I worked with who sold Avon, her name was Karen. I started buying from her as it was easier since I was working and not able to go see Margaret. One day Karen asked me if I was interested in selling Avon and I said "NO, I can't sell anything". She said, “Well, you buy so much and if you sell you will get a discount.” I joined Avon to get a discount on what I was buying. However, I started going door to door with brochures and the rest is history: 45+ years later, here I am.

My family’s Avon legacy is that when I turn 70, my granddaughter, Marie, will turn 18 and her and I will work the business together until she is ready to take over and I can retire. Marie loves Avon makeup, skin care, and beauty. She has her own style when it comes to clothes. Although this is a recent Avon memory, there are so many more memories that go back 45 years, including being Michigan's #1 seller and earning an ACE Award for being in Avon's Top 10 Sellers.

Who is the most inspiring woman in your life and why?

Susan, former Avon District Sales Manager and 7-time Circle of Excellence Achiever: She was my Avon Mentor. She was my 4th District Sales Manager. I would go out with her to learn how to make appointments with new Ambassadors. She was like Mrs. P.F.E. Albee (the first “Avon Lady)”, very grand and beautiful. When she spoke, people listened. Once I became a District Sales Manager, we traveled to conventions together. Now that I am an Ambassador and she is retired, she is one of my Avon customers.

Jorge, Ambassador

How did you learn about Avon?

I learned about Avon from the very best: my mother. She passed on to me not only her passion for the brand but also the product knowledge and work ethic that shaped her own journey. Many years later, the District Manager who had once supported my mother in the United States became a mentor to me as well, sharing her expertise and encouraging me to grow. With their guidance, it became clear that it was my turn to pursue my own dream and begin my own Avon journey. I hope my message reaches other Ambassadors and reminds them that success is not defined by a title, but by the dreams they carry and the determination behind them. No one walks this journey alone. We are part of a legacy 140 years strong; a brand that has empowered not only women, but men as well. I stand as a testament to that legacy today.

The most unforgettable moment I’ve had with Avon so far was being invited to film a video at RepFest in Las Vegas in 2016. I had the opportunity to share my story, and for the first time, I truly felt seen and valued. Even though I didn’t hold a major title in sales or leadership, Avon took the time to learn my why and listen to my journey. That experience showed me that I mattered.

Who is the most inspiring woman in your life and why?

The most inspiring woman in my life is my mother. While I was growing up in Mexico, she sold Avon products to support me and my brothers during the years my father worked in the United States. Determined, she chose a path that allowed her to remain present in our lives while still providing for our family. Through her work, she taught me that every lipstick and every face cream carry a meaningful story— one shaped by resilience, hope, and human connection. My mother showed me that no path is too distant and no dream is unattainable, and her example continues to guide my own journey. When we arrived in the United States, my mother’s story continued in much the same way. She was new to the country and did not yet speak English, yet she relied on the skill she knew best: selling Avon. With determination, she began building her story once again, this time in a new country.

Lisa, 10-Star Ambassador

How did you learn about Avon?

My mother used to buy Avon from a friend of my auntie Barb. The Avon Lady would stop by my house when I was young and sit at our kitchen table and show my mother demos and give her samples while they drank a cup of coffee together. Sometimes I would sit at the table and listen and look at the products, too. My first cologne was Sweet Honesty, my first makeup as a teen came from former Avon brand, Colorworks and my first pierced earrings were a gift from my cousin Patty, purchased from Avon.

I sold Avon for many years and my mother was always supportive of my business. It was quite a few years of struggle before things looked really hopeful. Then, I started earning trips. I always thought she'd be good at being an Ambassador, but she always said sales was not for her. Then, she went with me on an Avon trip to Hawaii. During the trip, another Ambassador said to her, "Oh, isn't that cute! You are mother and daughter and you both sell Avon!" My mother stood right there and said, "YES, WE DO!" I nearly fell on the floor! She signed up to be an Avon Ambassador on the way home. She had a huge career with Avon, earning 18 trips on her own and dozens of awards and built a huge team.

Who is the most inspiring woman in your life and why?

My biggest female inspiration right now is Connie. She lives in my town and is in her mid-70s, but you'd never know it. I have worked with her over the last few years in our community theater and our plays have been based on Connie's work. She has been "game" for anything that gets thrown her way! She is constantly on the move, constantly learning new things, and standing up for what she believes in. I just find her so AMAZING!

Our legacy lives on through the voices within our community. As we celebrate Women’s History Month and look to the future, we are inspired by the strength of our Ambassadors and customers, and committed to creating opportunities, championing women and building what comes next, together.
